Etymologie

Die Herkunft des Namens Tooele (gesprochen Twuala) ist bis heute nicht vollständig geklärt. Es wurden im Laufe der Zeit verschiedene Theorien vorgestellt, welche von einem Häuptling der Gosiute bis zu einer Schilfart Tule reichen.cite-ref-4[3.1] Nach anfänglich verschiedenen Schreibweise legte Brigham Young 1852 die heutige Schreibweise fest.cite-ref-5[3.2]

Geographie

Die Stadt Tooele bedeckt eine Fläche von 54,8 km² (21,2 mi²), davon sind 0,1 km² Wasserflächen. Sie liegt am westlichen Hang des Oquirrh-Gebirge im Tooele Valley. Viele Campingplätze umrunden die Stadt. In der Nähe liegt auch das Tooele Army Depot für die Lagerung chemischer Waffen der USA.
